www.ebay.com
Whether you’re looking to develop land further or settle on it, purchasing land in an auction is an undeniably smart investment.
If you’re looking to purchase, check out eBay first! The online auction marketplace is a great starting. Simply type in ‘land auction eBay’ in a search engine, and you’ll see that eBay offers properties within the US and internationally. While the prices of most of these properties are standard (quite expensive), the auction format can allow for price drops that you might not normally see when purchasing the land at a flat price. For example, a 70 x 120’ residential building lot in California City, CA is currently being auctioned off at $500. Since eBay has a wide variety of properties and locations, we definitely recommend starting at this site. Just be wary of your seller, of course!

www.landwatch.com
Landwatch is the ultimate site if you’re considering purchasing or developing land – this site is chockfull of information, resources, and of course – land auctions! To get started, visit www.landwatch.com. Then, select the ‘Auctions’ tab on the homepage. You can narrow your search for the perfect plot by the options on the side, with which you can search by price, parcel size, type (condo, homestyle, agricultural ranch, etc). The site also provides very detailed information sections about each plot and what comes with it, which is a plus (and also sometimes a rarity) compared to other auction sites. The only downside to browsing on Landwatch is that the auctions are held wherever the plot is – so you have to be willing to travel to your desired land plot. Otherwise, we think this is a great site to check out, especially if you’re a seasoned land developer.
